The book Mário Soares 100 anos was launched this Saturday at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
The book “Mário Soares 100 anos” brings together photographs by Alfredo Cunha and Rui Ochoa and texts by Clara Ferreira Alves. The launch, this Saturday at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, was attended by the President of the Republic.
Alfredo Cunha captured Mário Soares for the first time on April 28, 1974, on the train in Santa Apolônia on his return from exile in Paris. The photojournalist would become the official photographer in both presidential terms, between 1986 and 1996
Photojournalist Rui Ochoa also has many stories by Mário Soares told in images. And there is one that remains in history, when, in the 1986 electoral campaign for the Presidency of the Republic, the then candidate was attacked in Marinha Grande.
There are also never-before-seen images of the Campo Grande house captured in July this year, an idea given to photojournalists by the current President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The book published on the centenary of Mário Soares features texts by Clara Ferreira Alves, which show the politician and his trajectory in democracy, but also the man and the complicity that united them.
The book launch took place at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, the place where Mário Soares and Maria Barroso met and was attended by their children João and Isabel.
