The UN envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, met on Sunday (15) with Syria’s rebel leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa. Photos distributed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) showed the meeting.

Pedersen said on Sunday (15) that he hoped to help facilitate the economic recovery.
In a statement, the Syrian General Command said Mohammed al-Jolani discussed with Pedersen the need to reconsider a roadmap outlined in 2015, known as Resolution 2254.
said the transition in Syria must lead to “trustworthy, inclusive and non-sectarian governance,” consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
This resolution calls for a Syrian-led process, facilitated by the United Nations, establishing within six months non-sectarian governance and setting a timeline for a new constitution-making process. She also calls for free and fair elections.
According to a statement released by Pedersen’s office on Monday (16), the UN intends to offer all types of assistance to the Syrian people, rebel leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa and interim Prime Minister Mohammad al-Bashir during a meeting in Damascus.
