A heron was saved after spending more than ten days with a plastic cup stuck around its neck. The rescue was carried out by teams from the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability, in partnership with the State Institute for the Environment (Inea). The animal was released on December 15th, after undergoing surgery to remove the object. This incident highlights the urgency of correctly disposing of plastic waste, in order to prevent animals from being harmed. To monitor the heron, teams installed a feeder that helped attract it and used drones to monitor its condition. After the rescue, the bird was taken to the Wild Animal Recovery Center (Cras), where the glass was removed. Veterinarian Jeferson Pires warned that, without removing the material, the heron would face a serious risk of death. The rescue operations included the collaboration of several environmental institutions, highlighting the importance of working together to protect fauna.
