The commissioner of the Inongo River, David Kalemba, explained in statements collected by the ACP news agency that The sinking was due to “the overload at ceiling level”, according to a provisional death toll, since there are dozens of people missing.

This shipwreck is the fourth recorded this year in the province of Mai-Ndombe, a region that depends on river transport. Most recently, nearly 80 people drowned in October when another overloaded boat sank in Lake Kivu in the east of the country.
