The former president’s voters believe more in the possibility of a new dictatorship in the country than the president’s voters, according to a survey.

Among those who declared their vote for Bolsonaro in the second round of the 2022 elections, 45% say there is a chance of one, compared to 38% among those who say they voted for Lula that year.

The margin of error is four and three percentage points for the two groups, respectively.

For 24% of the former president’s voters, there is a good chance of a new dictatorial period in Brazil, compared to 18% among those who voted for Lula.

Among PT voters, 56% say there is no chance of a new dictatorship, a percentage that corresponds to 50% among Bolsonaro supporters.

When the focus is on 2022, however, Lula’s voters believe more than Bolsonaro’s that the country has gone through.

Almost half of the former president’s voters, 48%, deny that there was a chance of a coup d’état after that year’s election. The same percentage is just 6% among those who voted for Lula.

Among PT voters, 89% say that Brazil was at risk of a coup at that time, with 69% saying they consider this risk to be great. Among those who voted for Bolsonaro, 46% recognize that there was a chance of a coup, but only 17% say it was great.

Datafolha carried out 2,002 interviews across the country, in 113 municipalities, from December 12th to 13th. Respondents were 16 years of age or older. The survey’s overall maximum margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus, within the 95% confidence level.

PT and Bolsonaro supporters also disagree when asked whether the former president should remain in power. Among Lula voters, 84% agree with the statement, while 73% of those who voted for Bolsonaro disagree.

The discrepancy is similar when these groups are asked whether the former president participated in what they say was a plan by the military, the vice-president () and the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court).

Among Bolsonaro voters, 79% say he did not participate in this plan, a percentage that drops to 17% among Lula voters. Among those who voted for the PT member, 69% say that the former president was involved in the case, compared to 9% who say the same among Bolsonaro voters.

The January 8th coup plotters, an agenda defended by the former president, divides his voters – half of them are against and 45% are in favor. In March, in the last survey, 53% of those who voted for Bolsonaro were against the benefit and 40% were in favor.
