The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), stated this Saturday morning that he ordered “total mobilization” in his administration as a result of the accident that left at least 22 people dead on the BR-116, near Teófilo Otoni. In a post on social media, Zema lamented what he called a “tragic accident”.

“I ordered full mobilization of the government to assist victims and support family members in the tragic accident on BR-116, in Teófilo Otoni. Our Security Forces have been working without interruption since dawn and throughout this morning to quickly respond to the incident,” he wrote.
This Saturday morning, an ENTRAM bus, carrying 45 passengers, fell on the road at around 3:30 am.
According to information from the Military Police of Minas Gerais, the bus had left São Paulo bound for Jequié, in Bahia, when a tire burst, crossed the wrong side of BR-116, and collided with a trailer loaded with stones. After the crash, the bus caught fire and left the road.
The track remains closed, with no expected reopening date.
