Langosz is a traditional Hungarian delicacy that delights with its crispy crust and soft interior.. The pancake is deep-fried, so its consistency is a bit like a donut, but salty. Langosz can be eaten plain or served with any ingredients or your favorite cold sauce.
Fry langos for guests during the New Year’s Eve party. Let each of the invited – as part of a common attraction – choose their own accessories. Langose are most often eaten with garlic butter, but also with bacon, onion, grated yellow cheese, cream and sugar, ham or feta cheese. Prepare several options and your loved ones will surely be delighted.
Ingredients:
- 250 g of wheat flour,
- package of dry yeast (7 g),
- 130 ml of milk,
- half a teaspoon of salt,
- half a teaspoon of sugar,
- frying oil,
- additions (as desired, e.g. onion, yellow cheese, bacon, etc.).
How to do it:
Heat the milk until it is warm but not hot.
In a large bowl, mix the yeast, salt, sugar and a tablespoon of flour. Pour in the milk and combine the ingredients thoroughly. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
Pour the remaining flour into the second bowl. Pour in the leaven. Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer with a dough hook until it becomes elastic and uniform. Cover the bowl with a cloth and set aside in a warm place for about an hour until it doubles in volume.
After rising, place the dough on a floured surface and knead lightly. Divide the dough into several equal parts. Form each part into a ball and then stretch it in your hands into thin pancakes about 15 cm in diameter.
Heat the oil in a deep frying pan or pot to approximately 170°C. Fry the homemade langos one at a time, 1-2 minutes on each side, until golden brown. After frying, drain the pancakes on a paper towel to remove excess fat. Place toppings on the pancakes according to your preferences.
