The re-elected mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB)announced this Friday (27) that the mayor of Osasco, Rogério Lins (We can)will be the new Secretary of Sports and Leisure of the capital of São Paulo from January 2025.
In addition to being a councilor twice, Lins remained at the head of Osasco city hall for eight years and managed to elect his brother-in-law as successor, state deputy Gerson Pessoa (Podemos), defeating former mayor Emidio de Souza (PT) right in the first round. Once he completes his second term, the mayor will join the Nunes administration.
His record includes a preventive arrest shortly after his first victory in 2016, when he was elected with a speech of political renewal. Lins and 13 other councilors were accused of hiring “ghost” public servants. According to the Public Ministry of São Paulo (MPSP), an estimated diversion of R$21 million from public coffers resulting from these acts was estimated.
At Christmas that year, Lins turned himself in after spending three weeks abroad. He was released after paying a bail of R$300,000 and took office as mayor of Osasco a few days later. Lins has always denied the accusations.
