The Ministry of Justice redefined the indicative classification of the Mexican series last Friday because it contained “legal drugs and violence”
The federal deputy (PL-SP) criticized the decision to redefine the indicative classification of Mexican series “Chaves”now for people over 10 years old, and “Chapolin”now for people over 12 years old, as they contain “legal drugs and violence”. Previously, both series had free classification.
On his profile on X (formerly Twitter), this Saturday (Dec 28, 2024), the parliamentarian said that “Speaking of ‘fantasy violence’ and ‘legal drugs’ as justification is treating the Brazilian people as incapable of discerning what is quality and harmless entertainment”.
The deputy also stated that the president’s government (PT) “prioritizes social engineering over the protection of the population”. Mário Frias was, during June 2020 and March 2022, Secretary of Culture in the government of the former president (PL).
“While the country faces a crisis of real violence, with thousands of lives taken every year, the government prefers to spend time imposing censorship on cultural works that are heritage of our collective memory. This decision is yet another example of state paternalism that tries to control even what families watch at home, disrespecting our intelligence and autonomy.”declared the deputy.
Even though the Ministry of Justice recommends that “Chaves” e “Chapolin” are only broadcast after 8pm on open TV, it is nothing more than a recommendation from the agency. However, the SBTwhich is responsible for broadcasting Roberto Bolaños’ work, is already showing it from 8:45 pm to 10 pm.
