Boxer Paul Bamba died this Friday (27). The information was confirmed by singer Ne-Yo, who was the athlete’s manager.

Bamba died six days after winning a World Boxing Association (WBA) belt after beating Rogelio Medina at an event held in New Jersey, USA, last Saturday.

The cause of death was not stated in the statement issued by Ne-Yo to the Puerto Rican fighter’s fans.

Ne-Yo said Bamba was a “brother” and a “fierce, confident competitor with relentless ambition to achieve great things.”

”It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched countless lives. He was a fierce and confident competitor, with a tireless ambition to achieve great things. But most of all, he was a tremendous person who inspired many with his exceptional drive and determination. We are heartbroken by his passing and kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time,” Ne-Yo’s statement read.

The fighter had a record of 19 wins, 18 of which were by knockout, and three defeats.
