Another edition of the S. Silvestre race took place this evening in Lisbon. This year the event had a record number of participants.
Isaac Nader, a Benfica athlete, won this Saturday the men’s race at São Silvestre de Lisboa with a new national record for the 10 kilometers, running the distance in 28.03 minutes.
The women’s race was won by Salome Afonsowith the brand 32.18 minuteswith the Benfica team ahead of the men’s elite thanks to five minutes of progress in the match, thus winning the traditional confrontation between men and women in São Silvestre in the capital.
Among the men, Benfica completely dominated, as José Carlos Pinto climbed to second place on the podium, with a time of 28.07 minutes, and Miguel Moreira was third, in 28.12.
Among the women, Salomé Afonso was joined on the podium by Solange Jesus, athlete from Sporting de Braga, winner in 2023 and now second, with a time of 34.15 minutes, and Carla Martinho, from Recreio Desportivo de Águeda, third, with 34.17 .
With over 146 thousand athletes since its inaugural edition, the 17th edition of São Silvestre de Lisboa broke its registration recordwith 14,000 registered athletes, surpassing the 12,500 two years ago, and among which were more than 5,000 women and athletes of 57 nationalities.
