Two crew members survive plane tragedy in South Korea

The tragedy involving a Jeju Air airliner at Muan Airport in South Korea resulted in 179 deaths. According to an update from the South Korean news agency Yonhap, released this Sunday morning (29), only two people survived the tragedy.

The Boeing 737-800 took off from Bangkok, Thailand, with 181 occupants, 175 passengers and six crew. During landing, the aircraft had a problem and the landing gear did not activate. As soon as it touched the ground, the plane lost control, left the runway and collided with a wall, causing an explosion.

Despite the difficulties, two crew members were rescued alive. The two airline employees were removed from the wreckage and taken to medical care. There is still no information about their health status or identity.

The accident happened around 9am this Sunday (29th) – around 9pm on Saturday (28th) in Brazil. The and collided with a concrete wall. Upon impact, the plane exploded and was quickly consumed by flames.

The Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 aircraft took off from the city of Bangkok, Thailand, and was destined for Muan, South Korea. According to the company, 181 people were on the plane, including 175 passengers and six crew members. According to the passenger list, 179 occupants were Korean and two were Thai.

The journey between Bangkok and Muan is approximately 3,700 kilometers. The cause of the accident is not yet known, however, it could be related to a problem with the landing gear and also a collision with a flock of birds. The causes will be investigated. This is South Korea’s worst plane crash since 1997.
