The senator and former vice-president of the Republic (-RS) received for the first time on Friday (17) the minister of the AGU (Attorney General of the Union), appointed by Lula (PT) to the (Supreme Federal Court).
Mourão states that, in recent months, he spoke to Messias, from ministers of the STF and the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) to generals.
He says that, in the end, he responded to the appeal of a very dear person — he did not want to reveal who — and acted in the name of coherence, since he also met with Lula’s other two nominees, Cristiano Zanin and Flávio Dino.
The senator states that the conversation was cordial, but that Messias already knew very well that he could not count on his vote.
“We talked about the institutional crisis, the fact that due legal process was being thrown away. Other than that, they were generalities”, says the senator. “He knows what my position is, but he tried to demonstrate that he will be someone exempt.”
Mourão says he dealt with the convictions for the January 8 attacks, citing former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), former minister general Walter Braga Netto, to whom he is close, and a bus that took a protester who participated in the acts of vandalism to Brasília. Messiah, according to him, heard.
Last week, the AGU minister also managed to cross off the list of the name of another senator by whom he had not yet been received: Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE), . The meeting took place on Thursday (16).
“I spoke to him, although he knew my position from the beginning. But it is an institutional duty and I also maintain my position, my vote against”, says the senator.
Messiah will be, more than six months after being appointed to the vacancy opened by retirement. Governors say they are confident that the AGU today has more than the 41 votes needed.
