The fire caused the evacuation of Flaminio and Spagna stations.
Two metro stations in the Italian capital Rome had to be evacuated on Sunday after a fire broke out near two stops frequently used by tourists. TASR informs according to the DPA agency.
Smoke entered the ventilation system and caused chaos
The fire broke out in the unused carriage house of Villa Borghese. The smoke immediately entered the ventilation system near the Flaminio underground station.
As a result of this fact, many believed that the station itself was on fire, causing chaos and panic among passengers. The authorities subsequently decided to evacuate the Flaminio station and another Spagna metro station near the Spanish Steps, DPA explains.
According to initial reports, no one was injured, although several people reportedly complained of breathing difficulties. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
