Former South Korean President Yoon could face arrest warrant over martial law declaration

A joint research team announced this Monday the request for an arrest warrant against the president of South KoreaYoon Suk Yeol, -momentarily dismissed from his duties– for his declaration of martial law at the beginning of December, for insurrection and abuse of power after ignoring up to three summonses to be questioned about the controversial decision.

In the application, investigators allege that Yoon led a insurrection and abuse of office when he declared a state of emergency on December 3 and supposedly ordered the Army to prevent the deputies present in Parliament from voting against the decree.

The now deposed president has denied the accusationsdefending that the declaration of martial law was a “government act” to warn the opposition party, which has a majority in the National Assembly, against what he described as an abuse of legislative power, which seeks to support the Korean regime northern.
