An influencer from -SC caused controversy on social media when she stated that she only encountered “ugly people” on her trip to Ilha do Mel, on the coast of Paraná. In one post, the woman, who identifies herself only as Gi, states that she had the same impression on a previous visit to the island.
“We are in Encantadas, on Ilha do Mel and, so, I have been here again and it was the same perception I had. I’ve never seen so many ugly people together. Seriously guys, I’m from Santa Catarina and the difference is clear. I’m far from being the most beautiful person in this world, but Santa Catarina is 10 to 0. Guys, seriously, there are a lot of ugly people here. I had already noticed this last time, but this time it’s a little more so”, says the influencer, who maintains a profile with her husband Léo, in which they present tourist attractions in the southern states of Brazil.

In addition to stating that she only saw ugly people on the island, the influencer also complained about the supposed lack of hospitality from the residents. “Let’s see now we go to Nova Brasília. I’ll see if it’s a little more, because Encantadas has a slightly more rootsy feel, a little more folk, right. Nova Brasília, at the lighthouse, is a bit, you know, elite. And another thing we noticed here is that, there are exceptions, but the majority of people here on Ilha do Mel don’t make a point of treating us well. This guy is not friendly, he barely says hi”, he adds.

Influencer apologizes after backlash
After receiving criticism for the prejudiced way in which she referred to the residents of Ilha do Mel, the influencer then released another video, in which she apologized for her previous comments. In this second video, she appears alongside a representative of the residents and states that she was drunk when she made the first recording.
“I first came to recant my unfortunate speech about ugly people. Anyway, I’m not that kind of person. I was here one afternoon, we were enjoying ourselves, I had a few drinks and you know me, anyone who follows me knows that I’m not used to drinking. And I recorded the video, released it, and never imagined that my speech had caused offense. Or I didn’t put myself in these people’s shoes, right? I didn’t imagine it would be like this, it would also expose some people. Finally, I would like to ask for forgiveness from the bottom of my heart, I had a very unfortunate speech”, he states in an excerpt of the video.
