Central Bank report shows that inflation should end 2024 at 4.90

Financial agents reviewed 2,02% to 2,01% the estimate for Brazil’s economic growth in 2025, according to the latest Focus Bulletin of 2024. They increased by 4,84% to 4,96% the projection for next year’s inflation.

The (Central Bank) released the latest report with estimates this Monday (Dec 30, 2024). Here is it (PDF – 754 kB).

Despite a slowdown in economic activity being expected, financial agents’ projections for the following year are more optimistic than in 2023. In the last Focus of last year, that growth would be 1,52% in 2024. The most recent projection states that the increase in GDP (Gross Domestic Product) will be 3,49% this year.

Estimates for the IPCA (Extended National Consumer Price Index), which measures the country’s official inflation, increased by 4,84% to 4,96% in 2025. From next year, the target will be 3%. The ceiling remains the same as in 2024, at 4.5%.

Here are other projections:

  • inflation in 2024 – increased by 4,71% to 4,91%;
  • basic rate, the Selic, in 2025 – was kept in 14,75%. The 2024 base interest is 12.25% per year;
  • dollar exchange rate in 2025 – increased by R$ 5,90 to stop$ 5,96.
