Several people were attacked and injured by a knife-wielding man in the Charlottenburg district of West Berlin on Tuesday, German police said. The perpetrator attacked people on the street and two people were hospitalized, TASR writes, according to AP and DPA reports.
“Shortly before 12:00 p.m., emergency services were called to Charlottenburg, where a man allegedly injured several people, probably with a knife,” German police announced on the X social network. They added that they were interviewing witnesses and did not provide any further details yet. The Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported that several passers-by rushed at the attacker and held him until the police arrived. According to them, there is no indication that it was a terrorist attack.
“One of our homicide units has taken over the investigation into the attempted murder. The suspect is a Syrian living in Sweden who, according to initial findings, shows signs of mental illness. It is believed that he stole the knives from the supermarket,” the police said on the social network.
