It would be a good signal for the domestic and foreign environment if Slovakia had a duly elected second highest constitutional official, head of the National Council (NR) SR. Slovak President Peter Pellegrini stated this in an interview with TASR.
“If I were part of the government coalition today, I would give it as one of the fundamental conditions without which the coalition could not move forward. Therefore, I think that it would be resolved very quickly,” responded Pellegrini.
From the position of president, he can, according to his own words, elect the speaker of the parliament appeal and challenge the coalition publicly and privately. “I think that even the citizens stop understanding it, don’t they one government coalition does not know how to follow some clear rules and choose the speaker of the parliament as agreed,” the head of state stated.
The position of Chairman of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic has been vacant since April 2024when the head of the parliament at the time, Peter Pellegrini, won the presidential election. According to the coalition agreement, it belongs post Hlasu-SD, which nominated its vice-president Richard Raši. The head of SNS Andrej Danko was also interested in this position. He emphasized that the president has already left Hlas-SDand therefore this function should belong to SNS.
However, the SNS declared on Monday (December 30) that at the next meeting of the National Assembly of the Slovak Republic, it will support a candidate from the Hlas-SD party for the position of Speaker of the Parliament. Danko renounces any claim to the given post. She justified it by saying that the topic must be closed definitivelyso that it is possible to solve the national interests and all the problems that have arisen within the coalition.
