The police detained a man suspected of the attack in Berlin: the act is being investigated as an attempted murder

German police arrested a man who injured two people in a knife attack in the Charlottenburg district of West Berlin on Tuesday. TASR informs about it according to AP and DPA reports.

According to the police, he was the attacker is a Syrian citizen with permanent residence in Sweden. The perpetrator allegedly attacked several people, causing injuries to two men. One of them has since been released from the hospital.

Attacker according to DPA stole a knife from a store where he attacked one person before targeting another victim outside a nearby hotel.

“Initial findings suggest that the suspect may have symptoms of mental illness and there is no indication of a terrorist motive,” said a spokeswoman for the German police, adding that the investigation was still ongoing. The police said in a statement that investigates the act as attempted murder.

Berlin media previously reported that the man apparently attacked randomly. The Berliner Zeitung newspaper reported that several passers-by rushed at the attacker and held him until the police arrived. Charlottenburg is usually a quiet district of the German capital, AP writes.
