In 2022, what is happening today would have been considered a horror scenario – with drastic effects on households and companies: Since Wednesday, six a.m., gas has stopped flowing from Russia through Ukraine to the west, not even to Austria. The oldest gas connection from Russia is therefore blocked. The step comes at the instigation of Ukraine, which – as widely expected and announced – has no longer extended the transit contract with Russia’s state-owned company Gazprom as of January 1, 2025.
