Navy identifies victim of bridge that collapsed and was in truck cabin

The Brazilian Navy (MB) identified the body of another victim from the Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira bridge, which connects the state of Maranhão to Tocantinsand collapsed on December 22nd.

In a statement, the Force reported that on Wednesday morning (1st) it rescued the body that was inside the cabin of a truck.

Last Tuesday night (31), a vehicle with two other bodies was removed from the bottom of the river. One of the bodies was previously located and the other was missing.

The removal and location of the bodies were carried out by divers and refloating devices (makes the object float again on the surface of the water).

Due to the volume of rain, the Navy reported that the flow from the Estreito Hydroelectric Plant to the Tocantins River was increased between last Tuesday (31) and Friday (3).

This measure will directly impact searches between 9am and 3pm.

In addition to the use of drones, a helicopter from the Maranhão Public Security Secretariat and four other vessels are also being used in the searches, divided into two shifts (morning and afternoon).

The workforce has 87 soldiers, who are on site, in addition to another 20, who work remotely in the planning and logistics of the operation. The Military Fire Department of Pará, Maranhão and Tocantins are following the case and are supporting the search.

Bridge reconstruction

Last Tuesday (31), the Ministry of Transport between Tocantins and Mato Grosso. The amount spent will be R$171.9 million and the works are expected to be completed in December 2025.

The consortium responsible for preparing the project and carrying out emergency work on the bridge over the Tocantins River is formed by the companies A. Gaspar S/A and Arteleste Construções Limitada.

Until the works are completed, . The emergency service began on Tuesday and can be used by pedestrians, cars and trucks.
