This week, we celebrate an extraordinary milestone in Brazilian journalism: 150 years of The State of S. PauloEstadão, which we all know and admire. Since its founding on January 4, 1875, Estadão has been much more than a news vehicle – it is an institution that helped write and preserve the history of Brazil.

Over the course of a century and a half, Estadão witnessed and reported the main events that shaped the country and the world. He resisted periods of censorship with creativity, as in the famous use of poems by Luís de Camões to denounce repression, and led the modernization of journalism with the migration to digital, without ever losing his commitment to the reader.

This trajectory is the result of the vision and resilience of the Mesquita family, which for generations has guided Estadão with courage, maintaining its independence and commitment to Brazil. Here, I leave a special hug to Francisco Mesquita on behalf of all generations of one of the most illustrious families in the country. And, of course, the tireless work of a team full of stars – journalists, printers, photographers, editors and many other professionals – , who keep the essence of quality journalism alive.

As Erick Bretas, CEO of Estadão, recently said, the company has always been a modernizing force in Brazilian society. “While Brazil was an Empire, Estadão was born defending the Republic. Brazil was a slave country, and the newspaper defended abolitionism. The newspaper is an agent of institutional modernization, always defending the modernization of Brazil, its institutions, the way of doing politics. In 150 years, very coherent, he never gave up these flags”.

In the name of the team InfoMoneyI thank and congratulate Estadão for its invaluable contribution to the country. May the celebrations of this historic milestone be a moment of inspiration for the next 150 years, in which the newspaper will continue to be an essential reference in a world in constant transformation. The young Estadão turns 150 years old with an eye on the future.

Congratulations, Estadão!
