The number of injured after the attack on the Christmas markets rose to a total of 299 in Magdeburg, Germany, two weeks ago. So far, the authorities have reported 235 injured. The new higher figure was announced on Friday by the German Ministry of the Interior, reports TASR according to the DPA agency.
The increase in injured people is related to the fact that some were not registered immediately after the attackpossibly injuries were reported later. According to the ministry, twelve of the most recently reported number of injured have foreign nationality or dual citizenship.
During the attack on the Christmas markets in Magdeburg on December 20, a fifty-year-old man ran over people with a rented car shortly after 7:00 p.m. He killed five people, including one child. The police arrested him immediately after the crime and took him into custody.
Attacker Tálib A. comes from Saudi Arabia and worked as a psychiatrist. He lives in Germany since 2006, in 2016 he received the status of a political refugee. He shared extremist positions on social networks. Saudi Arabia claims that she repeatedly warned the German authorities against him. An investigation into the case is ongoing.
