At the end of the year, Denzel Washington reached a round number. The American actor, producer and director turned 70 and is one of the main names in the history of cinema today.
Spike Lee shared a photo on Instagram on June 2 to celebrate the end of filming the last film. “High and Low” does not yet have a release date, it is in the post-production phase and the publication also highlights the participation of Denzel Washington.
Washington’s last film debut was in “Gladiator II” alongside Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal and directed by Ridley Scott.
With more than 40 years of career, the American actor has 10 Oscar nominations and won two: one for best supporting actor for “Glory Time”, in 1990 and another for best actor for “Training Day”, in 2002.
Along a successful path came other nominations and other awards: 11 Golden Globe nominations yielded two wins, and the career award, in 2016.
He is recognized by the public and his peers, has inspired many and been the hero of others. As the late actor Chadwick Boseman said in 2019:
“When asked by Phylicia Rashad if he wanted to help nine students, (Denzel Washington) graciously and privately said he agreed. As fate would have it, I was one of those students. There would be no ‘Black Panther’ without Denzel Washington. And I don’t just say because from me, but from the entire cast, an entire generation that stands on their shoulders.”
In 2020, “The New York Times” made a list of the 25 best actors of the 21st century. Washington came in first place.
“What am I most proud of? I can’t say just one thing. You know, my career is what I’m most proud of… the reach, the longevity, the fact that I still have the desire for it“, said the American actor in 2019.
A path that is also being followed by his son John David Washington. The father, on the other hand, is from Mount Vernon, New York, where he was born on December 28th. 70 years ago.
