Midfielder Rodrigo Garro was reportedly involved in a car accident in the early hours of Saturday (04/01), in Argentina. According to the newspaper “El Diário De La Pampa”, the player, who was driving a pickup truck, ran over a motorcyclist, who died instantly.
Garro would be in the car with another football player, from Emelec, from Ecuador. Both the Corinthians and the Ecuadorian team athletes were unharmed.

According to the publication, the vehicles collided head-on, but investigations will still be carried out to determine how the accident happened. Garro took a breathalyzer test which found 0.5g/L of alcohol in the player’s blood. As a result, the athlete was detained preventively.
What is the blood alcohol limit in Argentina? And in Brazil?
The blood alcohol limit for driving in Argentina is exactly 0.5g/L, exactly the value that Garro’s test would have performed. The amount, however, varies from province to province.
The province of La Pampa, where the accident occurred, recently passed a Zero Alcohol law, making it an offense to drive with any amount of alcohol in your blood.
In Brazil, the limit is 0.05g/L. If someone is caught in Brazil with 0.5g/L of alcohol in their blood, the driver is charged with a traffic crime, in addition to paying a fine of almost R$3,000 and being unable to drive for 12 months.
How long will Garro be imprisoned?
According to the daily “Olé”, Garro will remain in prison until experts reconstruct the accident.
Francisco Cuenca, the delegate following the case, stated that the accident was classified as culpable homicide, that is, when there is no intention to kill. Cueca, however, stated that the situation could change according to the investigation, which will determine the speed, whether any of the vehicles passed the red light and other situations.
According to Argentine law, the penalty for manslaughter due to reckless driving of a vehicle is 2 to 5 years in prison, which may increase to a minimum of 3 to 6 years if the driver is under the influence of alcohol – a case that appears to be that of Garro. .
