Striker Gabigol, 28, was presented this Saturday (4) by Cruzeiro, his new club, with which he signed a four-year contract.
The presentation was at Mineirão, which received around 44 thousand fans. During the ceremony, the striker said that he arrives “with heart and soul” at the new club. He also promised dedication.
They are welcoming me very well, and I hope we can repay all this affection on the field, with great achievements and great games”, he said.
Formed in Santos’ youth teams, and with unsuccessful spells at Inter Milan and Benfica, the striker arrives in Belo Horizonte from Flamengo, where he is an idol. With the Rio team, he won the Libertadores twice, scoring goals in both finals (against River Plate, in 2019, when he scored twice in the 2-1 comeback victory, and against Athletico, in 2022, when he scored the only goal of the match, won by Flamengo 1-0).
The Rio team also won the 2019 and 2020 Brazilian Championships, the 2022 Copa do Brasil, the Recopa do Brasil in 2020 and 2021, the Recopa Sul-Americana in 2020 and the Campeonato Carioca in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
In the last two years, however, he had bad moments at the Rio club and started some matches on the bench.
In addition to Gabigol, Cruzeiro also presented this Saturday, at the same event, right-back Fagner, ex-Corinthians, midfielder Christian, coming from Athletico, and midfielders Eduardo, ex-Botafogo, and Rodriguinho, coming from América-MG .
Cruzeiro also signed striker Dudu, an idol from Palmeiras, but trained in the Minas Gerais team itself, for 2025.
