Fraudsters impersonate police officers via SMS and ask for money for fictitious fines. In the message, they call for the payment of a fine after clicking on a link that looks like the official website of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic. The report also contains the “file” number, the reason for the fine, the date of its award and the amount. The police drew attention to it on the social network.

“The police definitely do not enforce fines in this way. If you have been issued a fine, it will come to you properly by mail,” she stated. According to the police, the URL address of the website also reveals fraudsters. “In this case, it is a proven tactic of fraudsters who try to take advantage of a momentary inattention by changing the domain, or adding letters to the address so that it resembles the real one,” she added.

He urges citizens to, in case of receiving a similar SMS they did not click on any links and deleted the message. If they have become a victim of fraud, they can contact the police on line 158 or any unit of the Police Force.
