A passenger was arrested red-handed by the Federal Police (PF) this Saturday (10/18) after claiming that he had a bomb on board a commercial flight that had taken off from Natal (RN) bound for Recife (PE).

The statement caused panic among the aircraft’s occupants and led to the immediate activation of air safety protocols. The pilot requested an emergency return to Aluízio Alves International Airport, in São Gonçalo do Amarante, in Greater Natal, where the plane landed safely.

After landing, all passengers and crew were removed, and the PF carried out a thorough inspection of the aircraft, which belongs to Azul Linhas Aéreas. No explosive devices were found.

The airport was closed for just over an hour for landings and takeoffs while teams carried out the sweep.

The passenger was taken to the Regional Superintendency of the Federal Police in Rio Grande do Norte, where he was charged with the crime of attacking air transport safety, as provided for in the Brazilian Penal Code. He will remain at the disposal of the Court.
