The Italian Prime Minister, , paid an unofficial surprise visit to the president-elect of the United States, , at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, the leader’s office said this Sunday (5). Photos sent by the far-right prime minister’s office showed Meloni and Trump posing at the entrance to Mar-a-Lago and talking in a reception room, with a Christmas tree visible in the background. She was also seen shaking hands with Florida Senator Marco Rubio. His office did not make any statements or respond to repeated requests for confirmation of Saturday’s visit (4), which, according to the American press, included a film screening and dinner.
“I’m here with the Italian Prime Minister, a fantastic woman. She conquered Europe,” declared Trump, according to American journalists. Photos of the two conservative leaders appeared on the front pages of all Italian newspapers this Sunday. The film shown on Saturday was, according to the same source, the documentary “Eastman Dilemma: Lawfare or Justice”, in which the Republican’s former lawyer denounces the double standards of American justice. Meloni is one of several foreign leaders, including Canada’s Justin Trudeau and Hungary’s Viktor Orban, who have visited Trump, who will return to the White House on January 20.
