Washington – Shortly before the end of his term in office, US President Joe Biden is implementing extensive protection of US waters from further oil and gas production. With the memoranda issued on Monday, all areas of the outer continental shelf off the east and west coasts of the United States, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and other parts of the northern Bering Sea in Alaska are exempt from future oil and gas production, Biden’s statement said. The decision is valid indefinitely. “My decision reflects what coastal communities, business owners and beachgoers have long known: that mining off these shores could cause irreversible damage to places we care about and that it is unnecessary to meet our nation’s energy needs,” stated Biden. “It’s not worth the risk.”
