On Monday morning, warnings of ice, wind and wind in the mountains are in effect for part of Slovakia. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) drew attention to this on its website.

Ice warnings are valid for the entire Žilina, Prešovský, Košický and Banskobystrický regions and for most districts of the Trenčín region. “Ice formation represents the potential danger for human activities (traffic, movement of people, infrastructure – different types of lines). The occurrence of ice is common at the given time of year and area, but it can cause minor damage,” meteorologists said.

SHMÚ issued warnings before by wind in several districts of the Trnava and Nitra regions and for the districts of Myjava, Kežmarok, Poprad and Tvrdošín. The wind speed can reach in gusts 75 kilometers per hour. According to the constitution, wind warnings are also in force on the mountains in several districts of the Žilina Region, as well as in the districts of Poprad, Brezno and Banská Bystrica.

The wind speed in gusts can be 135 kilometers per hour above the forest zone. “The predicted wind speed is normal for the given time of year and area, but represents a potential hazard for human activities (especially for hiking, mountain climbing, etc.),” the institute pointed out.
