President Joe Biden (Democrat) stated that the invasion of the Capitol on January 6, 2021 should not be forgotten. In a letter published by this Monday (Jan 6, 2025), Biden reflects on what happened and says that “American democracy survived” to attacks.
The invasion of the headquarters of the American Congress turns 4 years old this Monday (Jan 6). Biden, who was sworn in as US president on that occasion, today sees his term coming to an end.

In the article published by Washington PostBiden recalls the attacks of January 6, 2021, stating that the event can never be underestimated again.
“Violent insurrectionists attacked the Capitol, threatened the lives of elected officials, and attacked courageous law enforcement officers. We should be proud of the fact that our democracy survived the attack. And we should be happy that we won’t see shameful attacks again this year”, these Biden.
Biden, however, called for the invasion of the Capitol not to be forgotten. For the Democrat, there was an attempt to rewrite history and even erase it, classifying the attack as “a simple protest that got out of control”.
“We must not forget. We must remember the wisdom of the saying that every nation that forgets its past is doomed to repeat it. We cannot accept that what happened 4 years ago is repeated”, wrote the president.
The US president recalled the damage caused by the invaders, who not only vandalized the Capitol, but also injured police officers. 5 people, Police officer Brian D. Sicknick, who was providing security at the scene at the time of the protest, died.
Leaving the White House, Biden assured that he wants to make a peaceful transition and “restore the tradition we have respected for so many years in the United States”.
