European leaders warn that Musk is a danger to democracy, tycoon announced support for German extreme-right party

Elon Musk, who is also counselor of the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trumpexpressed his support for the candidate for chancellor of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) partyAlice Weidel, for the next elections in this country.

On Monday, several European leaders expressed criticism of North American tycoon Elon Musk and warned that the owner of the social network X represents a danger to democracy by interfering in the politics of countries like Germany.

Musk, who is also counselor of the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trumpexpressed his support for the candidate for chancellor of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) partyAlice Weidel, for the next elections in this country.

The billionaire, who will be part of the Trump administration, called the current German Chancellor a “fool”, Olaf Scholzand “anti-democratic tyrant” to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, among other verbal excesses against European politicians.

A European Commission (EC) insisted this Monday that Musk has the right to freedom of expressionbut warned that it will analyze any risk to democracy in the face of the upcoming elections in Germany under the EU Digital Services Act.

“There are certain limits, especially when a platform is used or abused in this context”, highlighted community spokesman Thomas Regnier.

The tycoon announced on his social network the holding, on Thursday, of a live interview with Weidel, which he considers to be the only capable of “saving Germany”.

European countries react to Elon Musk’s announcement

The French President Emmanuel Macron accused, in turn, Musk of “supporting a new reactionary international” and interfering in the elections of other countries, such as Germany.

Macron also warned that big technology companies, although they offer new possibilities, are making states feel threatened by their growing power.

Also the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støreexpressed concern about technology billionaire Elon Musk’s recent comments about the political situation in Germany and other countries.

“I find it worrying that a man with enormous access to social media and great economic resources meddles so directly in the internal affairs of other countries. This is not how it should be between democracies and allies,” Støre told Norwegian public television NRK.

The leader of the German Liberal Party (FDP) and former Finance Minister, Christian Lindneran admirer of the billionaire, accused the owner of X, Tesla and Space wanting to “generate chaos” and “weaken” the Central European country by supporting the extreme right.

Musk also attacked British politicians, such as the Labor Prime Minister Keir Starmerwhom he accused in X of being “guilty of terrible crimes against the British people” for failing to investigate “mass rapes” in the UK when he was head of the Public Prosecution Service.

He also attacked the British deputy minister for protection and violence against women and girls, Jess Phillipswhom she described as an “apologist for genocide by rape” and said she should be “jailed” for her rejection of the call for a public inquiry into gangs.

“Those who are spreading lies and disinformation as far as possible are not interested in the victims”, pointed out Keir Starmer.

Musk also questioned the leader of the far-right British party Reform UK, Nigel Farage, highlighting that he is not qualified to continue in the position.
