The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said that the Golden Globe won by actress Fernanda Torres, for her performance in the film I’m Still Herecould not have come at a better time, just a few days before the acts in defense of democracy, scheduled for Wednesday (8).
Lula stated that he intends to turn 2025 “into the year of defending democracy against the extreme right and against fascism, for us to make our youth learn what democracy is and the value of democracy”.
“There couldn’t be a better time for Brazil to win the Golden Globe for Fernanda Torres’ performance, two days before the act in defense of democracy. Janja and I congratulate this great artist once again. The entire country vibrated. We are children of a Brazil that is worth it, Fernanda”, wrote Lula.
The post shows a telephone conversation between the president and the actress. In it, Fernanda Torres also celebrates the feat.
“It was so beautiful to receive this award at a time like this. Such a beautiful thing for culture and art, which has been so attacked. And during his Presidency it’s such a beautiful thing… Democracy deserves this film. On behalf of Eunice Paiva, a Human Rights defender. It’s very symbolic. This film taught a lot of young people to understand what it is like to live in a state without civil rights”, said Fernanda Torres, also referring to the protagonist of the work.
Emotion
The award was commented on by Lula in other posts, published on Monday (6). “Exciting. Fernanda Torres is Brazil’s pride. Best Actress in a Drama Film at the Golden Globes for her great performance in the film I’m Still Here. As she herself says: life sucks. Congratulations, Fernanda Torres”, wrote Lula.

Afterwards, the president reiterated his praise for the achievement. “Cinema and culture are powerful tools for keeping alive the stories that shape who we are, transforming memory into learning and art into resistance. The film reflects on a past of horrors that needs to be remembered so that new generations know it and older ones never forget. By recognizing Fernanda Torres’ work, the world also recognizes the importance of telling our stories, not tolerating authoritarianism or violence”, stated Lula.
“May the strength and resilience of Eunice Paiva, told in this great film [Ainda Estou Aqui]create bridges and bring new generations closer to this debate that is so important for the preservation of our young democracy. We need to always be vigilant and ready to defend it”, added the president.
