Planting tulips requires not only the term, but also knowledge of several important rules. Thanks to them, the bulbs will be well accepted, and the garden will repay in spring a colorful riot of flowers.
The basis of success is the quality of planting material. Choose the bulbs:
- large and hard,
- without signs of mold, discoloration or soft places,
- The best seasoned with fungicide, which will protect them from diseases.
Storing the bulbs until the next season is possible if they could not be planted in autumn. Just keep them in a cool, airy place, away from moisture.

Tulips like sunny or slightly shaded positions, with fertile and permeable soil. It is worth relaxing with sand, and enriched with compost or deacidified peat. Thanks to this, the bulbs will not rot, and their growth will be stronger.
The planting depth should be around three times the height of the onion – Usually from 8 to 15 cm. On light soils we plant deeper, on heavier, slightly shallower.
The onions are best arranged at intervals 15-20 cm. To get an effective spring flower rug, it is worth planting them in groups of several pieces. Special baskets or biodegradable egg extruders are a good way to protect against rodents.

The best time for planting tulips is the period from mid -September to the end of October. It is then that the soil still has the right temperature, and the bulbs will be able to root well before the arrival of winter. If autumn is long and warm, planting can be extended even to November, although the risk of not taking the bulbs is greater. Why is it so important? Tulips need to be overloaded in winter to release healthy leaves and beautiful flowers in spring. Too late or spring planting often ends with a weaker growth and smaller buds.
