PF asks Justice to reevaluate order to investigate Israeli military

The investigation would investigate alleged war crimes committed by the soldier in the Gaza Strip

The PF (Federal Police) asked the Court reconsider the decision to launch an investigation into Israeli soldier Yuval Vagdani. The soldier would be investigated for alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip. The police sent a document on Monday (6 January 2025) to the MPF (Federal Public Ministry) stating that there are no elements to launch an investigation.

Some of the justifications presented by the PF are that the military already and that there are no laws that classify crimes against humanity in the country. The police also warn that the investigation sets a precedent for investigating the actions of foreigners outside the country. The information is from CNN.

The soldier was in Brazil on vacation when the court asked the PF to open an investigation. The request originated after a complaint filed by HRF (Hind Rajab Foundation). The foundation attached evidence that was collected through an investigation into Open Source Intelligence data – that is, from banks and sources with public information. They claim that the evidence confirmed the involvement of the Israeli soldier.

On social media, (PL-SP) celebrated this Tuesday (7th January) the PF’s decision and suggested an official apology to the Israeli soldier.

Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, stated on Sunday (5 January) that the request for an investigation against Yuval Vagdani is a . Chikli had also asked for Eduardo Bolsonaro’s support to denounce the investigation request.
