The singer Lisa Marie Presley (1968–2023) gave details of what his relationship was like with his father, the singer Elvis Presley (1935–1977). If he were alive, the King of Rock would have turned 90 this Wednesday (8).
The revelations were made in the book “Towards the Great Mystery: Memoirs”which was released in October 2024 and brings Riley Keoughhis daughter, as co-author. In the first chapter, she brings details of her childhood at Graceland, the family mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, in the United States.
“I thought my father could change the weather. To me, he was a god. An elected human being”, he quotes. Afterwards, Lisa says that making him laugh and happy was “her whole world”. “If I found out he thought something was funny, I would do as much as possible to amuse him,” he explains.
Lisa Marie, his only daughter, mentions that she was “super attached” to the star. “Our closeness was much greater than I had ever let on to anyone in the past. He loved me very much and was very dedicated, 100% present as much as he could, despite everyone around him”, he adds.
Despite being very close, the artist also says that she was afraid of the King of Rock. “He was intense and no one wanted to be the target of his anger. If I upset him, or if he was mad at me, it felt like the end of the world. I couldn’t bear it. When he got mad at me, I took it personally and was just devastated. I wanted his approval in everything.”
Throughout the work, she lists several moments with her father and shows the artist’s concern for her safety. In one of the episodes, Lisa Marie was burned after falling from a motorcycle and tried to hide it from Elvis, but was unmasked and received a slap on her hand.
“I felt like my world had fallen apart. He had been upset because I had gotten hurt. That was the last thing my father wanted for me. It wasn’t a question of control — he just didn’t want me to get hurt by doing something stupid,” he says.
Finally, she remembers that she went to bed and in the middle of the night, she woke up and saw that her father was standing next to the bed. “He was holding a little dog, a basset puppy making him lip sync while he sang ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ to me. When he finished singing, my father hugged me and apologized.”

She’s still here,” he says. “After my father died, my world changed completely,” he adds.
