The United States Police have indicated that the perpetrator of the explosion that took place in early January in a vehicle located in front of the hotel of the president-elect, Donald Trump, in the city of Las Vegas used artificial intelligence to plan the deflagration.
The man, identified as Matthew Livelsberger, a military man who suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome, died on New Year’s Day inside the car, a Tesla Cybertruck. Now, police have indicated that Liverlsberger, 37, turned to ChatGPT for information on how to plant the explosive.
Likewise, it also requested data on technical and legal issues to obtain the materials and achieve its mission, according to information collected by American media.
“First recorded case” of using AI to build incendiary devices
“We know that artificial intelligence would change things for us at some point,” said Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill, who stated that this is the “first case in which an individual uses ChatGPT to build this type of artifact”.
Livelsberger was an active member of the Army Special Forces and, according to investigations, he took his life with a shot to the head moments before the fireworks and gas cylinders he had in the vehicle exploded, a detonation wounding seven people.
The soldier left a note in which he declared what he was going to do as “a warning call to all comrades, veterans and Americans” and denounced the power elites as a group of “weak and irresponsible people who only seek to enrich themselves.”
He had served in the Army since 2006 and had a long career of missions abroad, with two deployments in Afghanistan and missions in Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He had recently returned from an overseas assignment in Germany and was on leave when he died, US public broadcaster PBS reports.
