OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canada is considering retaliatory tariffs on a range of North American products, including orange juice, if President-elect Donald Trump imposes a 25% tariff on products imported from northern Canada. border, a local newspaper reported on Thursday.
Orange juice is largely produced in the state where Trump lives, Florida. Other items under consideration include ceramic products, some steel products, glassware, among others, The Globe and Mail said, citing a senior government source.
The newspaper said the list of possible retaliation targets was not definitive.
Canada’s Ministry of Finance did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump promised in November that he would impose a heavy tariff on all goods imported from Canada and Mexico on his first day as US president if the two countries failed to stop the flow of migrants and the drug fentanyl across their borders.
Since then, Canada’s federal government and provincial governments have taken action and increased border monitoring.

But so far, Trump has not indicated whether he would change his stance on tariffs.
