PT asks MP-SP to investigate outbreak in Baixada Santista – 08/01/2025 – Panel

The leader of the PT in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo, deputy Paulo Fiorilo, asked this Wednesday (8) that the Public Ministry investigate what affects the .

In a letter to the Attorney General of Justice, Paulo Sergio de Oliveira e Costa, the deputy states that some of the factors cited as the cause of contamination are the pollution of coastal waters and the inadequate management of the sewage system, under the management of the privatized company.

He asks the Prosecutor’s Office to check whether there are flaws in the sanitation company’s operation and investigate whether there is a relationship between the increase in virus cases and the quality of sea water.

It also requires the Public Ministry to request water quality monitoring reports and investigate possible responsibilities of public managers and the private sector.

“I reinforce that the investigation of the facts is essential for the adoption of measures that guarantee not only the resolution of the current situation, but also the prevention of new outbreaks and the environmental preservation of the region”, he states.

In addition to , residents and tourists of , on the north coast, also report gastrointestinal symptoms caused by the outbreak.

Guarujá is awaiting the results of analyzes sent to the Adolfo Lutz Institute to clarify the origin of the contamination. The city says it believes the cause may be related to leaks and connections in the Enseada beach region.
