President-elect suggested that neighboring country become the North American ’51st state’; in response, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rejected the proposal and stated that there is ‘not the slightest chance’ of it happening
Last Tuesday (7), president-elect of the s, Donald Trump, published on a social network a map of the USA, which the territory of appears embedded. Previously, Trump had suggested that Canada become the North American “51st state” during a press conference. According to the president-elect, incorporation into the American nation would be financially beneficial to both countries.
“They’re great, but we’re spending hundreds of billions a year to protect them. We are spending hundreds of billions a year to take care of Canada,” Trump declared. He later considered the border between the two countries to be an “artificially drawn line”.
When asked about the possibility of using military force to incorporate Canada, the republican replied no. “No, economic strength. Because Canada and the United States, that would be a very big thing,” he said. In this sense, in his latest statements, the president-elect stated that he can use the US economic strength by imposing tariffs on Canadian products. He threatened to implement a 25% tariff on imports from Canada, a country that sends 75% of its exports of goods and services to the United States.
In response to Trump’s statements, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau rejected the proposal. “There is no chance of Canada becoming part of the United States,” wrote Trudeau last Tuesday (09) on the social network X. “Workers and communities in both countries benefit from the fact that they are the largest each other’s commercial and security partners.”
There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States.
Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner.
