Argentina’s Finance Secretary, Pablo Quirno, confirmed this Thursday, 9th, on his profile on X that the country paid sovereign debt bonds.
According to the Financial TimesPresident Javier Milei’s government paid US$4.3 billion to sovereign bondholders, the largest payment since debt restructuring in 2020.
The amount includes US$3.7 billion allocated to private creditors, with the remainder being passed on to public entities that hold Argentine debt securities.
According to the FT, the government acquired the dollars necessary for this payment using the fiscal surplus obtained last year, the result of the rigorous austerity package implemented by Milei.
