A 22-year-old young man who hung on to a bus to avoid paying the fare died last Thursday (9) after a traffic accident. The case occurred on Avenida Bom Jesus, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in the metropolitan region of Recife. The boy collided with an electricity pole and fell, dying at the scene.
The bus was on the Zumbi do Pacheco/Tancredo Neves line and was operated by the Metropolitana company. According to the Pernambuco Passenger Transport Companies Union, the driver immediately contacted the authorities.
In a statement, the Military Police reported that a team from the 25th BPM was sent to the location. However, the situation worsened when people began to vandalize the vehicle, breaking the side windows and front glass, in addition to trying to lynch the driver, who was protected by the police. According to the PM, the vehicle’s income was stolen in the action.
The Metropolitan company, in a statement, regretted what happened and stated that it carries out educational campaigns about the risks of hanging on buses to get rides.
After the accident, the body was removed by the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), while the driver was taken to the Prazeres Police Station to provide clarification. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
