Some of the fastest-growing jobs in 2025 barely existed at the start of the century, according to new analysis from LinkedIn.
The platform examined millions of jobs based on updates made by users between January 2022 and July 2024, identifying notable growth in the artificial intelligence industry as well as renewed interest in hospitality and travel.
The two highest ranked positions were artificial intelligence engineer and artificial intelligence consultant, respectively.
Artificial intelligence has become the newest buzzword in Silicon Valley, with companies like OpenAI launching chatbots capable of performing tasks ranging from holding conversations to suggesting recipes and remixing images — albeit with some high-profile mistakes.
However, not all of the jobs highlighted were related to AI — or even cutting-edge technology. For example, the third most popular job title was physical therapist. Workforce development manager and travel consultant rounded out the top 5.
The professional social network presents its annual “Hot Jobs” list as a “map of the future of work”.
“From the growth of AI-related roles to the resurgence of positions in the travel and hospitality sectors, the 2025 ranking highlights sectors with sustainable growth in the changing workforce,” the company wrote in its publication.
Meanwhile, large companies — including fast-food giant McDonald’s — have abandoned or scaled back their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices, and roles related to these areas appear not to be growing as much as in previous years, according to the LinkedIn report based on user updates.
Between 2018 and 2022, diversity and inclusion managers ranked third among the positions that grew the most, and, between 2019 and 2023, vice president of diversity and inclusion ranked seventh. In the most recent report, these functions did not even appear in the top 25.
LinkedIn also analyzed the gender composition of the 25 fastest-growing roles. Among the top 10, security guards (67%), outside sales representatives (81%), artificial intelligence consultants (70%) and engineers (80%) were predominantly occupied by men.
Recent data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the US economy added 256,000 jobs in December, well above the 153,000 expected by economists. The unemployment rate fell to 4.1%, signaling the continued resilience of the labor market.
