Surfer Gabriel Medina, three-time world champion and bronze medalist at the 2024 Olympic Games, suffered an injury to his left shoulder during training on Maresias beach, in São Sebastião, on the north coast of São Paulo, and had to undergo surgery this year. Saturday (11).
“This morning, I underwent a surgical procedure to begin treating this injury. Everything went well, and we are already looking at the recovery period and next steps,” he wrote on social media.
“I was preparing and very focused for the 2025 season, but unfortunately I will be out for a while. Total focus now on my recovery to come back stronger.”
Breno Schor, orthopedic doctor at Hospital Albert Einstein, in São Paulo, told the GE website that the injured tendon was reconstituted during surgery and that Medina must spend at least four months without training and six months away from competition.
As a result, the surfer will not participate in the 2025 WSL (World Surfing League) season, which will begin at the end of the month in Hawaii.
