Snow and wind complicate traffic in the Prešov region. The Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Prešov reported on the social network that in the village of Tatranská Javorina in the district of Poprad, the local mayor declared a state of emergency due to the snow disaster.

The mayor of Tatranská Javorina, Miroslav Michaľák, confirmed for TASR that the situation is complicated especially for local residents. “We have been constantly plowing since the early hours of the morning, and we only have one plowman, and we would not be able to ensure the passability of the local roads by ourselves, that is why we declared a state of emergency. The problem is that the individual houses are spread out in such semi-secluded areas. We are trying to make sure people can get out of their homes“, the mayor reasoned. According to him, more than 40 centimeters of snow fell in the village since morning and it continues to snow.

The first class route to Poland is also covered in snow. “In the direction from the village of Stakčín to the village of Ulič and on the section from the Starina dam to the village of Príslop in the district of Snina, the road is temporarily impassable. The police officers monitor the situation and explain to the road managers so that the problems are eliminated in the shortest possible time“, the police pointed out.

In other places of the Prešov region in the districts of Poprad, Kežmarok, Prešov and Bardejov, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute issued a first level warning for the occurrence of snow tongues and drifts. At the same time, in the Poprad District, a second level snow warning is in effect on Sunday afternoon. In connection with the weather conditions, the police call on drivers to be careful.
