Student representatives from public and private universities in Venezuela they rejectedthrough a joint statement released this Saturday, the inauguration of Nicolás Maduro held on Friday for a third consecutive six-year term in power, which they called “illegitimate.”
“We are unaware of the illegitimate swearing-in perpetrated by the Government of Nicolás Maduro on January 10, 2025, since without totalization (of the voting records), there cannot be a swearing-in,” they said in the statement, where they assure that that phase of the process electoral “has not been executed” by the electoral body, controlled by Chavismo.
In that sense, they maintained that, “in the absence of the totalization act” by the National Electoral Council (CNE), the swearing-in “is contrary to the Venezuelan Constitution” and “the current electoral laws.”
The student representatives supported the claimed victory of the candidate of the largest opposition coalition – the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) -, Edmundo González Urrutia, based on “the minutes that were collected and exhibited”, and “copies of which are found” – they noted – in Panama since last Wednesday.
