Is the end of Orban? Will the Mayor of Budapest be able to oust him?

Ερχεται το τέλος του Ορμπαν; Θα καταφέρει ο δήμαρχος Βουδαπέστης να τον εκθρονίσει;

The best poll say it is done on the streets and if that is true then the one should sit on lit charcoal. , even though he had banned it, he sent a clear message to his regime.

One of the main protagonists of this great mobilization was Mayor Budapest, Gergeli Karatsoni. The 50 -year -old mayor, who is politically affiliated with the country’s green party, opposed to the Orban regime, undoubtedly came out of this “match”.

At a time when the Fidesz, the Orban party, which has ruled the country in 2010, with the difference being increasing, the debate for the next day has begun. Although time for a large overthrow on ORban is there, as the election is expected to take place in April 2026, however, everything shows that Momedum is clearly against him, triggering discussions about his successor.

The failed attempt of 2021

For Karatsoni this may be a much better moment than his previous attempt to overthrow Victor Orban. During the previous election, although it started again with great ambitions, Karatson failed to even prevail in the opposition elections, which were held in 2021, in view of the 2022 elections and take the anointing.

Is the end of Orban? Will the Mayor of Budapest be able to oust him?

Specifically, Karatsoni, although in the first round had taken the second place, with 27.3%, compared to 34.7%of Clara Dobrev, retired before the second round, supporting Peter Marky-Zai, who had in the first round with 20.4%in the first round. In the end Marci-Zai then took the opposition anointing, but was easily defeated by the Fidesz of Orban.

But now his popularity seems to be at a much better level and there are few who consider his choice as a wide -left alliance as a candidate as a candidate.

The Mayar case

To become Hungary’s next prime minister, Karatson is not only able to overtake Victor Orban but also Peter Mayar. Mayar, who was once a member of the elite of the ruling Fidesz party but has released publicly with the party due to a scandal with a grace to a pedophile supporter, made his political debut a year ago, creating the Tisza party.

Already in December, Tisza has overtaken the ruling Fidesz of Orban in the polls. : A poll that came to light from Median a while ago, gave Tisza a lead with 15 whole units difference. This democratic result is undoubtedly the biggest challenge in the 15 -year full -time Orban hegemony, with analysts stating that such a difference will be very difficult to overthrow the polls.

The Center Left alliance

At the same time, it has not yet been clarified what the center -left opposition will do and whether it will form a wide alliance, as it tried to do last year. It is recalled that in March 2024, the Democratic Coalition parties, a Hungarian Socialist Party and Dialogue – Green Party, which is affiliated by Gergeli Karatsoni, formed a Coalition to operate as a counterweight to the rapid political rise of the center -right.

The agreement between the three parties stipulated that they would participate with a single list in the 2024 European elections, in the local elections of the same year and in the 2026 parliamentary elections. However, last October the alliance was dismantled and to date no one knows in the form of the parties.

Certainly, this creates a great obstacle to Karatsoni’s hopes, while Mayar seems to be galloping polls.

What will change for the European Union

Whatever the one who will succeed Victor Orban, he is sure to create very positive emotions in Brussels. Victor Orban, after all, was a headache in the Union decision -making process, with the situation even more difficult than 2022, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. Who can forget at that infamous moment when Orban came out of the chamber meeting of the European Council in December 2023, to “go for coffee” allowing the other 26 leaders to decide in favor of Ukraine and Moldavia’s own accession?

Both Karatsoni and Mayar have a completely different perception of both Hungary’s position in the EU and approaching Moscow. The end of the season seems to come to Budapest, with or without its mayor in the foreground.
