The FPÖ and ÖVP quickly agreed. Austria should save 6.4 billion euros this year in order to avoid an EU deficit procedure, the liberal party leader Herbert Kickl announced together with ÖVP leader Christian Stocker at the beginning of the week. What the ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos negotiated for 100 days without result, the future two-party alliance succeeded in just three days, said Kickl. He also once again made the promise that the People’s Party and the Freedom Party had made again and again during the election campaign: “We have developed a 6.4 billion package,” explained Kickl, “without new taxes, no inheritance and gift taxes, no property taxes.”
